What’s so wonderful the Scottish festival?One Word: Everything!The Blairsville Scottish Festival is held the second weekend in June (13-14, 2009) at Meeks Park in Blairsville. This is entertaining even if you don’t have any Scottish blood. Since I own a couple of Border Collies, I enjoyed attending the Border Collie and sheep demonstration. I also found the Highland Cattle exhibit and the Gordon Setter demonstration well worth the trip.
There is plenty of entertainment by way of workshops, demonstrations (falconry, herding, and ancient weaponry), exhibits, athletic competition, pipe and drum band competition, dancers, and music. All of this is authentic Scottish with plenty of food and vendors. As you know, everyone has different things that they think of when asked what is their favorite part of the festival. While there are many great attractions, the thing that keeps me coming back is the pipe and drum band competition.
Not to forget the children, there is face painting, train rides, and a space walk and children’s games. It is a thrilling event and there is a cover charge around $10/adult/day. For more information,
