Do you want to go exploring but are afraid of getting lost?

Concerned you’ll take more time than planned?

Concerned with the unknown cost involved?

Concerned or afraid of the unknown?

Afraid of EXPLORING?

If you have none of the above fears you are a better “man” than me. When I first vacationed in north Georgia, I was “anxious” about the unknown. I admit it. It is only natural.

Well fear NOT! The work has been done for you. Fannin County Chamber of Commerce has “charted” the course and I have scouted the paths for you.

So, you may proceed with exploring the beautiful mountainous regions without concern.

Drive the Blue Ridge Mountains and experience the wilderness and hidden attractions that only north Georgia has to offer.

Fannin County Chamber of Commerce offers three (3) self guided driving tours (see the links below). If you are in Blue Ridge you can get the tour maps at the Fannin County Chamber and Welcome Center in Blue Ridge, Georgia. If not, click here to see the Driving Tours and print them out yourself.

Old Pure Gas Station
What I love about these driving tours is the under $20 gas cost for a whole day of activities. The longest tour is 92 miles. Be warned MEN, DADS, MALES, this is NOT a point A to point B trip! Men, you have to slow down and smell the roses. I know because I could see that my “conquering attitude and aggressive blaze the trail nature” was spoiling the moment for the kids and wife.

Below is a description of each tour and all that I found. Enjoy. I would like to hear your comments.

Driving Tour #1

I start at the intersection of Hwy 515 and Hwy 5, travel southeast on Aska Road for about 22 miles until it intersected Hwy 60. From there I get on Hwy 60 and travel northwest to return to Blue Ridge. The highlights of this trip were: Toccoa River Rapids, Fall Branch Falls and Swinging Bridge.

Driving Tour #2

I start at the intersection of Hwy 515 and Hwy 5, travel northwest on Hwy 5. My first stop is Mercier Orchard where you may want to pick up a little snack for the road. Cherry milkshake is my favorite. It helps me chill for the driving tour. I remind my self “straight line – point A to point B” is NOT the goal. Exploring is the goal. This round trip tour is about 37 miles back to Blue Ridge. The highlights of this trip were: Mercier Orchard, Watson’s Store, and Betty Gap.

Driving Tour #3

I start at the intersection of Hwy 515 and Hwy 5, travel east on Hwy 515 towards Blairsville for about 4 miles until it intersects Hwy 60 and take a right. From there travel about 11 miles to Dahlonega and then get on Hwy 52 and return to Ellijay. Take a right on Hwy 515 and travel northeast to return to Blue Ridge. The highlights of this trip were: Old Skeenah Mill, the Swinging Bridge and Woody Lake.
